Dear Students and Parents:
The district recently announced that in order to earn credit for second semester, students MUST participate in distance learning beginning April 13th and continue through the end of the school year. In order to meet these requirements my Geometry and EL Geometry students must first do the following:
1.) Sign up for Remind Text messages. (Send a text to 81010
Text this message:@kcdab9)
2.) Create a Khan Academy account and add Mrs.Sambanis class to your account. (https://www.khanacademy.org/join/XGPBTX9T)
Your semester grade will be recorded into Power School as CREDIT or INCOMPLETE. Credit means you have passed the course, earned credit for the class, and do not have to repeat the class next year. Incomplete means you did not pass the course, you have NOT earned credit for the class and you will have to repeat the course in summer school or next fall.
To receive credit in my Geometry and El Geometry classes students must
1.) Complete 60% of the activities that are posted to Khan Academy each week and
2.) Earn a 50% or higher on assignments and assessments.
Activities include videos, assignments, and assessments. New activities are posted in Khan Academy Monday through Friday and all the assignments from the week are due by Saturday evening. Completion of the week’s activities will be recorded in Power School on Sunday of each week.
I will be extending the due dates of the assignments posted the first week of distance learning (April 13-17th) to allow students to catch up. Students will have until May 8th to complete the late for full credit assignments. Please work on current assignments first and complete assignments with later due dates after.
3rd Card Marking grades will be updated by April 24th and will serve as a progress report. 3rd card marking grades will NOT change your GPA.
If you have questions on material please take screen shots of the problems that you struggle with and text them to me. I will answer the questions via text when I can and I will hold Zoom meeting if necessary to explain problems that may take more in depth discussion.
The goal of distance learning is to finish the course work of your current classes so you are prepared in the fall for your next course. If you do not participate in the assigned material you run the risk of losing credit and having to repeat second semester classes during summer school or in the fall.
My hope is that you take ownership of your education. You have the opportunity to learn at your own pace, in the comfort of your own home, and ask questions one-on-one. You have a lot of flexibility! Use this time to get used to this new way of learning.
Please know that I miss you all and I love hearing from you, so keep asking questions.
Stay home and stay safe!
